Procedures for Enhancing Inter-coder Reliability

1. Develop and pilot-test coding forms before conducting meta-analysis.

2. Develop a code book that is keyed to the code form, and is explicit and detailed.

3. Train coders based on the code form and coding key.

4. Measure and report inter-coder reliability as part of the research results.

5. Revise the code key and code forms and retrain coders as needed.

6. Encourage coder involvement in discussions, and procedures regarding coding procedures.
