Colin Angus: Beyond the Horizon
Thursday, January 22, 2009
7 pm @ The Mountaineers Building, 7700 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle
www.angusadventures.com
In reaction to the effect humans are having on the planet, Colin Angus embarked upon a remarkable expedition - to circumnavigate the globe using only his "own muscles."
An experienced adventurer who had already braved the Amazon River and Mongolia's Yenisey River, Colin's exploits are chronicled in Beyond The Horizon. An amazing tale of danger, hardship and eventual triumph, Angus became the first person ever to circle the globe using only human power.
For two years, Angus pedaled, rowed and skied across 27,000 miles of treacherous landscapes and windswept, lonely waters. From Vancouver, he cycled to Alaska, rowed across the Bering Strait, and braved a brutal Siberian winter on skis. Next, he rode from Moscow to Portugal, then spent five months rowing across the Atlantic Ocean to Costa Rica. Angus finished with a 5,000-mile bike ride back home to Vancouver. This incredible journey ended 720 days after he began when he crossed the finish line at the University of British Columbia.
Colin Angus is a renowned adventurer who is the author of three books, and has co-produced two documentaries for National Geographic. The Mountaineers are proud to once again host Colin, for what is assured to be a riveting tale. This is a free show and all are welcome.

Join the Environmental Issues Course!
If you're interested in not only understanding the various environmental issues facing the region (or the world), but learning how to do something positive, then our long-running Environmental Issues Course (EIC) is for you.
This year, the EIC is all about climate change. How human actions influence the climate, how climate changes affect the Pacific Northwest and beyond, how models are put together to help us predict these effects, how economies are impacted, what you can do and what green builders are already doing.
The EIC consists of six two-hour lectures spread out between January and March - low impact on your schedule - and are chock full of useful information about climate change. Each session is taught by a local expert - scientists, economists and builders - who will give you a fresh perspective on this important subject.
The first session of the Environmental Issues Course is on January 12. Register now for this informative and motivating class. The fee is $45 for Mountaineers members, and $50 for the general public. Click the button below to register online.
