Competition for college-aged
staff grows stronger every year. College
students feel the pressure to build their
portfolios and apply for internships with
major corporations. In staff recruitment,
it's a buyer's market. Directors
must realize that they are selling
jobs, not buying staff.
Camp
skills are corporate skills . . .
Advertise the benefits of camp employment
when recruiting staff. Make sure you address how camp
can provide students with the skills that corporate America
is looking for. According to the book, Who's Going
to Run General Motors?, by Kenneth C. Green and Daniel
T. Seymour (Peterson's Guides, 1991), corporations are looking
for the following skills from recent graduates:
- Communication
- Change
- Leadership
- Globalization
- Teamwork
- Problem Solving
- Technology
