Camp Pemigewassett

Wentworth, New Hampshire
Established: 1908
Camp Details

Camp Pemigewassett was founded in 1908 by twin brothers Edgar and Edwin Fauver and their close friend Dudley B. Reed. All were graduates of Oberlin College and all went on to careers as college physical educators after graduating from Columbia Medical School. They were joined in 1910 by J. Herbert Nichols, also an Oberlin graduate and physician.

"Pemi" flourished under the Four Docs, and grew quickly to its present size of 170 campers, serving boys between the ages of 8-15. The founders all served for many years and passed camp on to the next generation, Alfred Fauver and Thomas Reed. Both men, now in their 90s, are still active in camp affairs, but have turned daily operations over to the third generation of family ownership and management. Jonathan Fauver and Tom Reed, Jr., along with co-Director Robert Grabill have continued Pemi's tradition of excellence in youth development. Campers currently come from over thirty states and six countries annually, participating in a broad curriculum which includes land and water sports, hiking and camping, nature study, music and arts. Many current campers are sons and grandsons of alumni, helping maintain Pemi's tradition of community, education, concern for others, and fun with a purpose.
